Vivid Sydney — Practical Guide
Vivid Sydney has grown into the world's largest festival of light, music and ideas since its launch in 2009. Each winter, for around 23 consecutive nights, the city transforms after dark. The Sydney Opera House sails become a canvas for large-scale projection mapping. The Harbour Bridge, CBD towers, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and Barangaroo all become part of one of the most extraordinary free light shows on earth.
The Vivid Light Walk — the free route from Circular Quay through The Rocks, Barangaroo, and around to Luna Park at Lavender Bay — is around 6km and takes 2–3 hours at a relaxed pace. Wear comfortable shoes and plan for crowds, particularly on weekend evenings. Weeknights are noticeably quieter.
Alongside the light walk, the Vivid Music program brings hundreds of concerts to venues across the city, and the Vivid Ideas program hosts talks from global thinkers, designers, and entrepreneurs — most Vivid Ideas sessions require a ticket.
